Today is the end of our special Masters Of The Universe themed week! Our final day brings an incredible lineup of both new and vintage MOTU art, highlighted by a very special release by Errol McCarthy! The McCarthy piece has never been offered as a print, and it is newly colored from the original pencil and inked artwork!
The McCarthy artwork, titled "The Masters Of The Universe" is a beautiful work, available as a poster for the very first time! This is a unique piece, and we wanted to show you a bit of the creation process with it.
The art was originally created in 1981, used as marketing material by Mattel for licensing purposes with their exciting new property at the time, Masters Of The Universe!
The original advertisement was not fit to print from a quality perspective, and we wanted to remove all of the original marketing text. We reached out to the Power and Honor Foundation, and were able to obtain the original pencil and ink artwork that Errol created!
With this art obtained, we brought in the very talented Francisco Etchart to newly color the piece. We wanted to match the original colors as closely as possible and the final artwork looks spectacular!
During this process, we also created a colorway variant, being careful to not change the original pencils. Our variant came to life, and presented an alternative take on the battle, focusing on the original 80s vintage mini comics for inspiration with the coloring of the characters!
We are thrilled to be able to offer this artwork in both the 24X18 and 36X24 sizes! We also have additional variants that kept the MOTU logo and "Crash" text!
